1 CHEM 125: General Chemistry Laboratory II, Spring 2017 Instructor: Loredana Huma Office 3037 SEL, Telephone: 312 996-2416, email: [email protected] COURSE REQUIREMENTS Required: Chemistry 125 Laboratory Manual and Notebook AND a pair of chemical splash goggles (not merely standard eyewear) or you will not be allowed in the laboratory. You will also need a scientific calculator for both lab and lecture, with plotting and regression capabilities. Disability Accommodations: Students with disabilities who require accommodations for access and participation in this course must register with the Office of Disability Services (ODS). Please contact ODS at (312) 413-2183 (voice) or (312) 413-0123 (TTY). Notification of this issue to the professor must occur within the first week of the course. Academic Calendar for Spring Semester 2017 January 9, M Instruction begins. January 16, M Martin Luther King, Jr., Day. No classes. January 20, F Last day to complete late registration; last day to add a course(s) or make section changes; last day to drop individual courses via Student Self-Service without receiving W (Withdrawn) grade on academic record. Last day to submit Withdraw from Term request via Student Self-Service and receive 100% cancellation of tuition and fees. February 5, Su CampusCare Waiver deadline. March 17, F Last day for undergraduate students to use optional late drop in college office and receive grade of W on academic record. March 20 24, M F Spring vacation. No classes. April 28, F Instruction ends. May 1 5, M F Final examinations. . Academic Dishonesty: In all work (examinations, lab reports and laboratory data) you must adhere to the guidelines regarding academic honesty as described in the UIC Student Handbook. Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated! A student who will be caught and proven to have committed an act of academic dishonesty on any homework set, quiz or examination, will receive a zero for the particular item and will automatically fail the course. The dishonest student will be reported to the Head of the Chemistry Department and to the Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Science. Quizzes There are two Quizzes given during the semester in the designated dates that they will account for 200 points (100 points each). NO MAKEUP QUIZZES ALLOWED If you foresee missing any quiz for religious reasons, you must notify in person the instructor and not the TA in the first two weeks of the semester.

2 Laboratory Work You will not be allowed to work in the lab without proper splash safety goggles and appropriate clothing, i.e., non-flammable clothing that covers arms, torso, legs and feet. NO shorts, skirts, or open-toed shoes (sandals, etc.) can be worn in lab! You are not allowed to wear gloves out of the lab! Contact lenses are a very bad idea in a laboratory situation because they can trap chemicals against the lens impairing normal washing of the eye. If you must wear contact lenses you are required to tell your TA and other students working around you so that they can properly assist you in the event of an emergency. If you come to lab
