Journal Week 1 I learned a lot of new information this week as I was reading the chapter. The theory of plate tectonics emerged in the early 1960s and also started a revolution in the earth sciences. The branches of earth sciences range from paleontology (the study of fossils) to seismology (the study of earthquakes). Although the theory of plate tectonics is widely accepted by the scientific community, there are stills parts of it that are still being debated today.
