Name: Mariah Patterson Module 01 Lab Worksheet: General Review Pre-Lab Evaluation Questions The pre-lab evaluation questions must be answered prior to lab and demonstrated to your lab instructor. You must read through the assigned chapter readings, lab introduction, objectives, overview and procedure to answer these questions. Please cite your work for any reference source you utilize in answering these questions. 1. In your own words, explain the difference between the terms distal and proximal along with the terms ventral and dorsal. The terms distal and proximal are used in anatomy to describe specific body parts in relation to the abdominal region or trunk of the body. Proximal means referring to the closest point of attachment. Distal means refers to farthest from the point of attachment (Frucht, 2017). 2. What are the units of measure in the metric system and why is learning and understanding the conversions so important within your field of study? The metric system is important to learn because it is the primary system of measurement used in science and throughout the world. Anyone who intends to learn or travel should know the basics of the metric system. The units of measure are liters (volume), grams (mass), and meters (length). These base measurements are made more useful by the prefixes such as kilo-, centi-, milli-, micro-, and more that are all factors of ten (OpenStax, 2013). 3. In your own words, define the terms: alleles, heterozygous, homozygous, genotype and phenotype. Alleles are different forms of the same gene, one is inherited from the mother and one from the father. When an individual possesses the same two alleles, regardless of the traits those alleles code for, they are considered homozygous. When the alleles of a gene are different it is called heterozygous. The genotype of a person is the genetic makeup of an individual that can be expressed visually in something called a phenotype. The phenotype is determined based upon what is physically expressed (OpenStax, 2013).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
