BPA 162 Chpt. 3 Writing Assignment Activity 3.6 Cultural differences can create problems in a business if all parties do not empathize and work with each other. In this activity, the hotel described is experiencing miscommunication due to cultural misunderstanding. The Thai culture is an example of a higher context culture, one that values nonverbal communication and is more ambiguous. This can be difficult for those from Western cultures to understand, who are used to direct communication and importance of timeliness. I would implement training programs that included all employees, both foreign managers and local Thai employees. This training would help foreign managers to better understand the Thai culture and learn to look for nonverbal clues and create better communication with employees.
