Bass developed a continuum of approaches that a leader might select as he or she interacts with his or her followers. The first of those approaches discusses the Laissez-Faire approach. This approach is also referred to as the hands -off approach because it provides little or no guidance to its followers. Next, he discusses the Transactional approach. This approach seeks to motivate its followers with rewards. Leaders who follow this method give their followers benefits in exchange for good performance. Lastly, we have the Transformational Leadership approach. Within this approach, Bass establishes a model of 4 components. The first component is Idealized Influence which relates to how much the followers want to emulate their leader. Next, is Individualized Consideration where the leader guides each follower based on his or her needs. Then we have Intellectual Stimulation where leaders provide intellectual stimulation so followers can develop their own skills. Lastly, Inspirational Motivation where leaders challenge
