King’s theory of goal attainment is based on the fact that there are four major factors that “affect the dynamic, interpersonal relationship in which a person grows and develops to attain life goals (George, 2011). The factors of roles, stress, space and time can affect this relationship. All nurses are educated and mentored by senior nurses, whether its in school or once they receive a job. King’s theory “provides a framework to guide and mentor the upcoming graduate nurse into practice” (Mcqueen, 2017). The new nurse will learn to grow on their own as they are guided by their mentors. In turn this will be passed along to the patients by the new nurses to set goals to attain. Nurses are taught from the beginning to set goals and then mentored to grow in their profession. The role of the mentor in the new nurse’s life is to help them to set attainable goals so that they can grow. The mentor is meant to help ease the stress, allow space to grow in an allotted time frame. This mentoring and guidance in attaining goals is then passed along to our
