As one of the earliest theorists on the topic of sustainable tourism, Krippendorf argued that because tourism was growing at a rapid pace, tourists were also increasingly likely to impact negatively on host communities and environments. He therefore constructed a typology with the ‘much maligned tourist’ on the one hand, and the ‘alternative tourist’ on the other. The ‘much maligned tourist’ is a combination of all the negative stereotypes that exist about tourists. They are ridiculous with their big cameras and their pale skin. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
