2. a . Target Behavior : Dexter raises his voice and yells at his teacher that he will not do a task and doesn’t complete the task. b. Triggers/Antecedents : When given an independent work task/assignment that he feels is difficult, per further information given it is reference to tasks that involve reading comprehension or math problem solving. c. Function of behavior : Escape/Avoidance - Not all behaviors occur so the person can “obtain” something; many behaviors occur because the person wants to get away from something or avoid something altogether. In this student’s case, he acts out to avoid having to complete certain assignments. d. Consequence for inappropriate behavior: From the information given on his FBA, he is removed from the class and does not have to complete the task. With this being the consequence for his action, he is actually “winning” so to speak because, his behavior kept him from having to do the task that was at hand. 3. Explain the behavior, including each of these points: Function of the behavior: Whenever any type of behavior is happening it is good to know the purpose of why it is taking place. The function of behavior that is shown with Dexter falls under a common area- escape/avoidance. This behavior is noted to take place when given what he believes is a difficult independent task/assignment. He begins to disrupt the class by yelling that he is not going to complete the assignment and he doesn’t. By his continuous disruption of the class he is removed from the classroom and not made to do the assignment. Disruption is noted when he shows inappropriate behavior such as yelling out, which then interferes with the function of the classroom as a whole. By Dexter’s behavior shown repeatedly, he has learned that this negative behavior will keep him from having to complete what he may consider difficult assignments. Medical factors that may impact the behavior: There is a noted medical diagnosis of ASD- Autism Spectrum Disorder. Problematic behaviors shown of children with ASD are some of the most stressful and challenging issues faced by school and parents. These behaviors put children

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
