Why they are important?The fact that Britain now has control over part of China. This is obviously a bigone. Hong Kong is a central part of China and knowing that it is controlled byBritain makes you wonder what China would be like nowadays if it was part ofChina. Hong Kong is responsible for much of China’s growth and industries.The fact that it caused much conflict within its own country. It says that theChinese army and leadership were disrupted and discredited. Many rebellionscame to place because of the opium wars, and much of the cost of the wars fellupon the farmers. Poverty and rebellions rode up all over the country. This wasdefinitely not desired but a learning stage for China.The opium wars helped China intellectually discover the west. Because of theinvasions of foreign countries, trade activity, and need of outside support, Chinawas able to create relationships and with other countries and learn about thewants and needs of the western world. Yes, this may not have been desired at thetime but it have played a major part in the progression of China.
