Aims of performance management The overall objective of performance management is to develop and improve the performance of individuals and teams and therefore organizations. When done well, it ensures that we are all clear about what success looks like and the part we each play in delivering this success’. As a strategic approach (strategic performance management), performance management processes such as setting goals are explicitly designed to align individual objectives with the organization’s strategic objectives

Performance management involves creating motivation and commitment to achieve objectives. It provides performance direction and recognition without which employees will be at a loss as to the nature and level of work effort required’. Performance management aims to develop the capacity of people to meet and exceed expectations and to achieve their full potential to the benefit of themselves and the organization. Itis about ensuring that the support and guidance people need to develop and improve is readily available.
