Shays’ Rebellion Guiding Questions: 1. Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. Do you think he wanted to see America form a strong central government? Why or why not? I think that Thomas Jefferson did not want a strong central government because he thought it would lead to another monarchy. He thought that a federal government would control the freedom of the people. Instead, he thought that concerns should be handled by the state governments. 2. According to Jefferson, have the colonies been peaceful or chaotic? Support your answer with evidence from the document. According to Jefferson, the colonies have been peaceful. "What country before, ever existed a century and a half without a rebellion ? And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance ? Let them take arms. " He is saying that they have been compliant until now, so “let them take arms” for once.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
