Objectives:1.Develop critical listening and thinking skills.2.Learn to organize, develop, and present engaging speeches. 3.Gain confidence in prepared public speaking, as well as extemporaneous speaking. Required textbook: Lucas, Stephen E. The Art of Public Speaking. 10thedition. New York: McGraw Hill, 2008. Assessment:1.Demonstrative Speech – “How To Do Something” 10% (4-5 minutes)2.Informative Speech 15% (5-6 minutes)3.Persuasive Speech 20% (6-8 minutes)4.Commemorative Speech 20% (8 minutes max)5.Class Participation/Group Work 15%6.Final Exam 10%7.Quizzes/Homework 10%Course and Classroom Requirements: If you need to miss class, please be professional and e-mail me beforehand. Missing two or more classes will result in a half-drop of your grade (an A becomes an A-). Walking into class more than 15 minutes late constitutes an absence.
