Purpose: The primary purpose of this lab is to comprehend the working of gears through simple experiments. Doing this, we will learn which gears are most commonly used, the different parameters used to define gears, and how they can be used in various applications. Procedure: In Exercise one, we are tasked with using the Boston Gear Catalog to research various part numbers. For these part numbers we must identify the gear type, catalog page number, diametral pitch, pitch diameter, number of teeth, pressure angle, and bore. Then we must provide a list of replacement gears from the Browning catalog. In part B, we are tasked with finding gear ratios, horsepower, and maximum torque for a number of gears. Exercise 2 requires us to select a spur gear drive based on specific specifications. Results: The results are attached on the following pages.
