Dr. McCloskey’s article poignantly refers to “Liberty” and “Equality” as the key for the past, present and future enrichment and wealth acquisition for US and (the rest). Citing proliferation of the common man from the evils of autocracy of tyrants (from individuals to the state) and by providing equality has fueled the economic enrichment of individuals and states that is a reflection of the prospering economies of the western world. This article requires further exploration and context setting in light of the history of human civilization and their prosperity across ages. While true that in the current “modern” day age, both Liberty and Equality has been seen as the antidote to the venomous effect of communism, autocracy and dictator states that has led to revolutions spanning from east to the west. There’s much to be seen and considered to argue against this thought. Argument in favor of this article can be vouched by the economic liberalization of India and China by its leaders that has put them at the helm of the fastest growing economies in the world.
