4.7.09 Faith is not a privileged source of information/access to facts that nobody else has access too; the revelation is an evaluation empowerment Character/trustworthiness is at risk; By believing, I don’t believe it exists – I believe in the If faith is reduced to beliefs that something exists, Freud has got you Niebuhr doesn’t believe that God exists as some super-being but they are able to use the name God for ultimate reality not fundamentalists so they don’t think they have special facts which reduces faith to concepts too small about God God = only name; don’t reduce reality of God (beyond our knowledge) to a concept too small to be God; can’t concretize a mental idol Niebuhr is serious about revelation; God is revealed but we don’t mistake that as a set of allegedly information sentences about God; we accept that God is beyond our knowledge of concepts the source of what all is; is our ultimate think/feel about reality trusting the universal reality or are we protective, defensive, resentful? Do we ultimately experience God as enemy or friend? No Christian God
