Richard Niebuhr- 1920’s -very critical of the institutional churches; 900 denominations from 1 Gospel? What is this? -critiques western capitalism, can’t own property without being an accomplice to the ills of capitalism, heavy stuff in the 20’s -haunted by Freud’s challenge to faith, through 1930’s wrestles with critical faith, how can religions faith be firm, dependable in the face of Freud and modern sciences and challenges?
