Heather Fackelman HONP 112 W-5:30-8:00 Due: 9/17/08 “Marketing” In the New York Times article “Traditional Media Not Dead Yet for Marketing, Study says,” Stuart Elliott explained that a recent study has shown that advertisements on “traditional media” like the radio and television still reach consumers better than “digital media,” such as the ads on the computer. Researchers believe this may be because advertising and marketing on the internet is relatively new, and it was not present since the beginnings of internet, while commercials have existed since television was made. Another big reason is that people are more relaxed while they are watching television, and thus more willing to pay attention to advertising, whereas someone who is searching for something on the internet maybe bothered by marketing. When I am watching a television show, I am relaxed and willing to pay attention to the commercials while I wait for my show to come resume. If I am online, I am usually doing research, checking my email or Though digital marketing is probably more convenient for companies doing the advertising and they do reach a wider audience on the web, I believe they reach a more ‘in-tune” audience on the television, because those are the people who will be more likely to pay attention to the advertisement.
