Heather Fackelman HONP 112 W-5:30-8:00 Due: 10/29/08 “Online Voting” “MAKING VOTES COUNT; The Perils of Online Voting” quite obviously focused only on the negative aspects of online voting. It keyed in specifically on the dangers of hackers voting multiple times and swaying the vote in major elections, like the presidential elections. It stated that four computer scientists were brought into the Pentagon to research and analyze a plan for online voting, but the four urged that the research be halted, and the program was suspended. It mentions that an online voting program could be beneficial to members of the military who are overseas, but that again, the risks far outweigh the benefits. It concludes that even a single hacker can tamper with federal elections and that until the “vulnerabilities they identified are eliminated, the risks are too great.” Personally, I am 100% for a secure, online voting system. This is obviously on a much smaller scale, but recently we were encouraged to vote on campus for our
