Speaking Of Human RightsLaurie PannellDecember 22, 2016Susan B. Anthony and Elie Weisel both gave speeches on human rights but from different perspectives and different time periods. Weisel focuses on the results of indifference and Anthony’s emphasis was on the effect of the indifference. Though their fights for justice were similar, the people they fought for were not. Elie Wiesel delivered “The Perils of Indifference” in front of then President Bill Clinton, Mrs. Hillary Clinton and members of Congress who as a holocaust survivor criticizes the leader’s responses to the death camps. “They believe that Auschwitz and Treblinka were closely guarded secrets; that the leaders of the free world did not know what was going on behind those black gates and barbed wire; that they had no knowledge of the war against the Jews that Hitler’s armies and their accomplices waged as a part of the war against the Allies.”[Eli99] Once he found out that the President of the United States at that time, the Pentagon and the State Department had knowledge about this, he was overwhelmed with a feeling of pain and anguish.
