Review Questions 1. What is the typical order in which insects begin to arrive on human remains? A. The first insects that arrive are necrophagous insects, then predator insects begin to appear. The next set of insects that will appear are omnivore insects. Finally, other insects that are native to the area will come into contact with the body. 2. Describe the case that was one of the first recorded times of forensic entomology being used in a criminal case. What role did forensic entomology play in the case? A. In France in the year of 1950, a repairman had found the mummified remnants of a newborn baby behind a fireplace mantel. The couple currently living in the apartment was under question of murdering the baby. Dr. Marcel Bergeret, was called in to share his thoughts on the case. Bergeret perceived that the hot, dry air around the fireplace had most likely mummified the baby, which made establishing the time of death problematic. However, Bergeret gathered the insects and eggs on the body and examined them. He thought that at least two generations of the insects had been present on the remains. This revealed that the baby had passed away
