September 18, 2007 Measurement and Testing and Creativity Interpreting Creativity o Idea Journal o Blog Posts o Music/Art Critics Judging Creativity o American Idol Judges/ Project Runway o Music/Art Critics Researching Creativity o Amabile, Wallas, Torrance, etc. Objectivist o Uses quantitative research (i.e. surveys, experiments, analysis, statistics, etc.) Constructionist o Uses qualitative research (ethnography, focus groups, in-depth interviews, observations, etc.) Subjectivist o No formal research (biographers, opinion leaders, personal experience, being “street smart”) Validity vs. Reliability valid  measure is one which is measuring what it is supposed to measure o An experiment is said to posses internal validity  if it properly demonstrates a  casual relation  between two variables o An experiment is said to have external validity  if the experiment results holds   different experimental settings, procedures, and participants.   The results will  generalize to the larger population. Reliability  is the extent to which the measurements of a test remain consistent under   identical conditions . That is a reliable measure is measuring something consistently, but  not necessarily what it is supposed to be measuring.   * Shows comic: “Nine out of 10 dentists recommend brushing your teeth”
