This assign- ment should give you an overview of the role of “Numbers and Operations” in K-12 mathematics. • To give you perspective on where our class activities fit in your preparation as a math teacher. The set of class activities, “Overview of Number Systems” is a natural college level extension of “Numbers and Operations”. • To give me feedback and information about your background. Read the following sections from the NCTM Standards : “Number and Operations Overview” and “Algebra Overview Selections.” The articles are available in UT e-reserve if you have chosen not to purchase the entire text as described in the first day handout.
