Identify the scriptural passages that Luther cites which argue for and against the use of force by Christians. See sections I and II. There are numerous passages in Luther’s Secular Authority that has counterargued both sides for the use of force in Christianity. Some of the quotes for the arguments are: Romans 13: 1 says that “Let every soul be subject to power and authority, for there is no power but from God. The power that is everywhere is ordained of God. He then who resists the power resists God’s ordinance. But he who resists God’s ordinance shall bring himself under condemnation” (Luther, 35). This is telling that God has given everyone the choice to be powerful and no one should restrict them from using their force. Another quote from Exodus 21[: 23] says that “A life for a life, an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth, a foot for a foot, a hand for a hand, a wound for a
