Ms. Doherty December 5, 2007 EDP 310 – Capstone Project Fall 2007 Date Assigned: Due: 12/05/07 Research has shown that it is very helpful for students to analyze their progress in courses by focusing on their use of strategic learning. The purpose of this integrative assignment is to help you see your progress in this course and others, to deepen your understanding of the different components of strategic learning, and to diagnose the areas where you may still need to improve your knowledge and skills. With this assignment, you are asked to reflect on the changes in your strategic learning across the semester. Please note that you will not be graded on whether or not you have actually improved in the LASSI module areas. You will only be graded on the following components of the assignment: Point Value 1) With the scores from your Post-LASSI Analysis sheet, use the attached template to enter your actual LASSI scores at the beginning of the semester, your predicted LASSI scores for the end of the semester, and your actual LASSI scores at the end of the semester . Use percentiles for each of these scores. 1 2) Using the attached template , calculate your Skill, Will, and Self-Regulation averages using both your actual LASSI percentile scores at the beginning of the semester and your actual LASSI percentile scores for the end of the semester. Then, create a graph, or graphs, depicting these changes in your LASSI percentile scores from the beginning to the end of the semester. (These graphs should show percentile averages for Skill, Will, and Self-Regulation for both your actual LASSI scores at the beginning of the semester and your actual LASSI scores for the end of the semester.) The graphs can be neatly hand-drawn (using a ruler) or computer-generated. 1 3. Discuss the changes in your actual Skill, Will, and Self-Regulation averages from the beginning to the end of the semester. Explain why your averages have changed using details from 2 module areas in each of the components of the Model of Strategic Learning. (For example, for the Skill Component you might discuss how your average increased because of improvements that you made in information processing. You could then describe two strategies you used from the Information Processing module. This would be 1 module area for Skill.) 4 4. For the module area you made the greatest changes in, discuss how improving in that module area has affected your progress in 3 other module areas. (For example, if time- management was the module area where you made the greatest changes, you might discuss how your progress in time-management affected your use of self-testing strategies and give a personal example. This would be 1 of the 3 module areas you would discuss.) 4 5. Choose one module area from each component within the Model of Strategic Learning and discuss how you will go about improving in these module areas in future semesters. Provide at least 2 specific examples of strategies you could use for each of the 3
