Module Five Short Paper Quality Improvement Council By Mark Deschenes, SNHU Healthcare Administration Student Class: IHP 604 -- Healthcare Quality Improvement Professor Joseph McTernan September 27, 2016 The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) is the first nationally standardized survey that is publicly reported on patients' hospital experience. (CMS, 2016) While many hospitals have collected information on patient satisfaction for their own internal use, until HCAHPS there was no national standard for collecting and publicly reporting this information. Now hospitals can report their patient experience of care and allow valid comparisons to be made with competing hospitals locally, regionally and nationally. Through the HCAHPS survey, patients rate their inpatient stay in 27 categories, ranging from communication with doctors and nurses to pain management to facility cleanliness and quietness. The importance of physician quality review and how providers have an effect on HCAHPS scores is increasing popularity or unpopularity depending on how we look at as an organization. We must embrace it now and move forward as a team or it could have some severe ramifications. HCAHPS Value-based purchasing your incentive payment is a conglomeration between core measures performance and HCAHPS performance. (CMS, 2016) I advise you to look up the organization and compare them to those you think are our competitors at the link below.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
