Anschluss - Annexation of Germany and Austria Appeasement- Chamberlain pursued a policy of appease ment. Chamberlain's reputation for appease m ent rests in large measure on his negotiations with Hitler over Czechoslovakia in 1938. Atlantic Charter- The Atlantic Charter was a pivotal policy statement issued during World War II on 14 August 1941, which defined the Allied goals for the postwar world , which was to end colonialism. Bank Holiday- FDR gave the banks 4 days off so they could get money distributed to the banks in order to pay off bank loans, etc. Battle of Midway- Was a turning point in the war when the U.S started to attack the Japanese war planes and destroy them. Battle of Bulge- Germany’s last major assault in the war. Mussolini- Leader of the Italian Fascist. Black Tuesday- The crash of the stockmarket. Bonus Army- Composed of Veterans that wanted their bonuses they were promised in the war. Charles E. Coughlin- Was a Demagogue; Catholic priest, anti-semitic, and preached on the radio. Charles Lindbergh- First man to go solo across the atlantic and realizes the Russians are way too good for us to beat. Court-packing plan- FDR proposed to add more justices to the Supreme Court. D-day- The D-Day operation brought together the land, air and sea forces of the allied armies in what became known as the largest invasion force in human history , they had landed on the Normandy shores. Demagogue- a political leader who seeks support by appealing to popular desires and prejudices rather than by using rational argument. Examples: Hitler Douglas MacArthur- General, military leader, who sent in lots of troops into the Philippines.
