Sandy Elmirahim Crockett and Douglass paper. David Crockett was best known as a hunter, and he will be always remembered as a fighter in the battle of the Alamo. He was born August 17, 1786 in Tennessee. His father was John Crockett , an Irish descent , and he was a farmer. His mother was Rebecca Hawkins an American woman, born in Maryland. His grandparents were murdered by Indians, in their own house. David had five brothers and three sisters, he was the fifth brother. They were a poor family. David was really young when he helped his dad doing farm works, and planting, he never went to school because he couldn’t read or write. Crockett's father put him to work driving cattle to Virginia when he was twelve years old. After running away from home to escape a beating from his father, Crockett traveled throughout Virginia. He decided that his lack of education limited his marriage possibilities, so he learned to read, to write a little, and to add and subtract. He became literate when he reached the age eighteen.
