The History of Aviation
The first airplane was created and flown by Wright brothers, Wilbur and Orville Wright.
On December 17, 1903, the brothers made the breakthrough with a successful flight in Kitty
Hawk, North Carolina. The brothers used stopwatches to time the flights. Due to fear of safety,
airplane travel was not embraced in its early stages. The U.S airlines industry includes eleven
mainline passenger airlines, three regional airlines and four freight carriers.
The historic Wright
brothers’ aircraft of 1903 is on permanent display at the National Air and Space Museum in
Washington, D.C.
