It is very important for leaders to be aware of the biases that they possess. Biases can lead to making wrong decisions that can result in larger problems and even fatalities. An effective leader should have self-awareness of their past personal experiences, the outcome, what was the driving force, and to reflect back on their actions and what they could have done better if anything. According to Showry & Manasa (2014), “A survey of 75 members of the Business Advisory Council of Stanford Graduate School rates self-awareness as the superior competency that leaders must develop” (pg.1). Self – awareness is a skill that can be learned and helps mold leaders into being successful and effective. If self-awareness is not attained it can result in the leader being demoted, can cause branding issues within the company damaging the company reputation, lawsuits, low performance and morale, and including deaths. We are all human emotional creatures balanced by motivation, logic, emotions, determination, and will power. Biases can play a huge factor in the decision making process. Sometimes we
