P262 o Job specifications are detailed written statements of work assignments and the qualifications needed to do the job acceptably o Job descriptions lists the duties and responsibilities of a given job o Why are each important when posting a job? Job specifications are tailored to list specific personal qualities, education, training and experience Job descriptions give the general overview of the job requirements o Why would small firms want to keep job descriptions more flexible than larger firms? Should be flexible for small firms to give the owner more freedom in assigning work to available employees, whether the work fits their job description or not. o Why would you want to make sure your job specifications only ask for what is need to do the job properly? Increasing education and experience level raises the starting pay expected, and you may actually be better off training someone to do things your own way. - When might you pursue internal vs. external hiring sources? It saves time, effort and money since outside recruiting is time consuming and costly; workers performance has been observed and evaluated.
