Assignment 2 Questions Read the paper by Bond, Egan, Kearns, Clark and Tannahill (2012) (required reading) and answer the following questions. 1. What type of epidemiological study design was applied in this study? Identify two key features of this type of design in the study? ( 2 marks ) Answer: The epidemiological study design is Population based Cohort study. 2. The authors have established two research questions (p.300) in relation to their research aims. According to these 2 questions, state two research hypotheses. ( 2 marks ) Answer: According to these two questions, two research hypotheses could be drawn. 1. Does HI lead to a reduction in smoking or to an intention to quit smoking? 2. Does mental health improve by HI? 3. What is the study factor and how was this factor measured? ( 2 marks ) Answer: In this article study factor is HI (housing improvements) The HI programme includes internal and external refurbishment of homes based on surveyors’ assessments of each property. Examples include improvements to roofs, external cladding, doors, windows, bathrooms, kitchens, heating and rewiring/electrical repairs. The HI group was defined as having had such an improvement between 2006 and 2008. The non-HI group was householders residing in the same neighborhood who did not report a HI between 2006 and 2008.
