From new policy to victim support Mothers Against Drunk Driving has paved the way to safer roads for everyone. MADD was created by two women on opposite sides of the country whose children suffered at the hands of drunk drivers. A lack of laws and effective consequences for drunk driving offences was the motivation for this organizations inception. Today the program pushes for stricter laws, spearheads information drives and supports victims of drunk driving all over the United States.MADD’s CreationMADD was created to save lives. MADD advocates for the shaping of laws and policies that would reduce instances of drunk driving. In 1980 30,000 deaths were attributed to drunk driving in the United States(Loewit-Phillips & Goldbas, 2013). The goal was to influence policy and legislation, as well as offer support to families and victims of drunk driving.
