Nurse practitioners (NP) are licensed independent practitioner, providing care to individuals, families, and groups. As an FNP in Ohio, I need to function within the scope of practice described in section 4723.43 of the Ohio Revised Code (Buppert, 2015, p. 78). One of the many services in the scope of practice of an NP is prescribing medication. As an advanced practicing nurse, one of my leadership roles for the practice is to be a patient advocate. The care of my patients is of utmost importance. It would be paramount to address how Mrs. Smith received a prescription of Amoxicillin without being seen by an NP or physician. I would have a one on one meeting with Stephanie as soon as possible to determine precisely what happened. Stephanie has ten years with the practice and has an excellent reputation, knows most of the patients, and has an excellent relationship with all the providers. Regardless of her abilities as a medical assistant, in the state of Ohio, she doesn’t have the authority
