Stephen Kramer 1/24/06 Cornell University Baraka Essay Baraka displays an array of environments and inhabitants of the environments living together in unison. All the unbelievable footage worldwide illustrates the beauty and destruction of nature and humans. This brings up the issue, is it hard for many cultures to live in harmony with the environment? People of different ethnicities must live in accord with the environment to provide for a more sustainable future. Different cultures practice unique customs and traditions. However, every society is the same in that they rely on the environment for survival. The film begins in the morning at ancient ruins with people performing prayers. This makes complete sense because the word Baraka is an ancient Sufi word, which can be translated as “a blessing, or as the breath, or essence of life from which the evolutionary process unfolds” ( http://www.spiritofbaraka.com/baraka.aspx ).
