Chapter 9 Enterprise Applications (ERP) 1. What is ERP, what are the modules in it? Enterprise resource systems feature a set of integrated software modules and a central database that enables data to be shared by many different business processes and functional areas throughout the enterprise Modules include: Finance & Accounting, Human Resources, Manufacturing & Production, Sales & Marketing 2. Business value of enterprise systems -Increase operational efficiency -Provide firm wide information to support decision making -Enable rapid responses to customer requests for info or products -Include analytical tools to evaluate overall organizational performance 3. What is supply chain management Network of organizations and processes for: -Procuring raw materials -Transforming them into products -Distributing the products 4. What is upstream supply chain Firm’s suppliers, suppliers’ suppliers, processes for managing relationships with them 5. What is downstream supply chain; can you give examples of them? Organizations and processes responsible for delivering products to customers 6. What is bullwhip effect? How to reduce it? Information about product demand gets distorted as it passes from one entity to next across supply chain- Inaccurate information can cause minor fluctuations in demand for a product to be amplified as one moves further back in the supply chain. Minor fluctuations in retail sales for a product can create excess inventory for distributors, manufacturers, and suppliers. The bullwhip effect is tamed by reducing uncertainties about demand and supply when all members of the supply chain have accurate and up-to-date information 7. What are the two systems of SCM? Supply chain planning systems: enable firm to model its existing supply chain, generate demand forecasts for products, and develop optimal sourcing and manufacturing plans(help companies make better decisions such as determining how much of a specific product to manufacture in given period, establishing inventory levels for raw materials intermediate goods and finished products, where to store finished goods and identifying transportation mode for product delivery) Supply chain execution systems: manage the flow of products through distribution centers and warehouses to ensure thea products are delivered to the right locations in most efficient manner(track physical status of goods, management of materials, warehouse and transportation operations, and financial info involving all parties) 8. What are push-based model and pull-base model? Push-based model (build-to-stock)-Schedules based on best guesses of demand Pull-based model (demand-driven)-Customer orders trigger events in supply chain 9. What is the business values of SCM? -Match supply to demand

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
