I. Answer the study questions from the reading: John Stuart Mill, “Utilitarianism” (p.67)1. He describes it as the creed which accepts as the foundation of morals “utility” or the “greatesthappiness principle” holds that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness and wrong as they produce the opposite of happiness. The freedom from pain is the only thing desirable as ends. 2. A beast’s pleasures do not satisfy a human being’s conceptions of happiness. People would prefer the higher pleasure over the lower pleasures.3. Of two pleasures that anyone has experienced, the one that is the most desirable is the one thatis better. These include the pleasures of the intellect, feelings, imagination and moral sentiments. 4. We should promote the happiness or pleasure of all mankind, persons and it does not stop there, even animals are included.5. It depends on whether it is desirable or wanted over something else.
