EXPERIENCES OF PARENTS WITH THEIR PREADOLESCENT CHILDREN ON SEXUALITY 2 Abstract: Parents are always faced with difficulty answering questions about sexuality to their children the inquisitive stage. It is always difficult to express it in the right way so that the children have the right perceptions about sexuality and their responsibility as children. Some of these questions presented are as a result of interaction with other children or adults. The response of the parent to these questions determines the way the children will face the challenges they face on sexuality. The objective of this paper is to assess the experience of parents in dealing with such situations. This will check out on the response of the parents in case they are asked questions on sexuality, how parents bring up and end the topic, the differences in how the fathers and mothers respond to the question, and the sources of information that could help parents approach the topic effectively. A study has been conducted among various parents especially in the context of kindergartens to get their responses. This will help understand the way the parents deal with the questions or where they obtain help to settle the minds of the children without hurting their feelings and making the children fearful. This will help other parents deal with the questions on sexuality. The information sources are majorly from one on one interviews with most of the parents. The parents expressed how challenging it is to deal with the topic at first, but later understood their children explain the issues correctly to their children. It was also found out that the fathers are not skilled in responding to the questions. The sources of information found to guide the children were professional books on early child development.

EXPERIENCES OF PARENTS WITH THEIR PREADOLESCENT CHILDREN ON SEXUALITY 3 Introduction: Efficient communication between parents and their children on sexuality has always been a major challenge. It is often difficult to express the words and actions to the children, more especially when their questions are direct. It is the responsibility of the parents to understand how to respond to such queries so that appropriate action can be taken to prevent the children from venturing into areas that will compromise their sexuality (Van Pelt, 2009). The essence of this paper is to analyze some of the responses the parents on these questions. From the responses made, it will be easier to come up with the right information that will help other parents in bringing up their children.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
