Continental Congress decided that the colonists would boycott British goods. If you don't you will be shunned. A Also, they wouldn't export to Britan . Boston Tea Party 1773 the Tea act is the height of the colonists suspicion that the government is trying to enslave them. The east india company has too large of inventories. They try to offload their tea and lobyists help pass an ac where they can sell tea directly to the colonies. The company sells to the colonies and cuts out the merchants and shop keepers. The people cut out are pissed. In the 1600's there were a lot of uprisings. Now with all these ideas of conspiracy (cato's letters) and people were convinced British rule was destroying their liberty. The coercive acts were the ones that broke the camel's backs and people start speaking of independence. 1775 British troops march into Lex and Con. By lake 1775 the king declares the colonies are in open rebellion 1774 Coercive Acts and Military Rule No ships may go in, no ships may go out of the port of Boston.
