Sample Response Paper 1: “This Is Your Brain On Video Games” In his article “This is Your Brain on Video Games,” Steven Johnson addresses the popular misconception that video games are detrimental to health and obliterate social skills. Citing multiple scientific experiments and instances that attest to games’ ability to stimulate mental exercise, Johnson claims that we enjoy games because of the challenge and reward system that they so clearly present. Even Tetris, a primitive and simplistic block matching game, was found to stimulate mental thought. Johnson poses that games are indeed addicting, but in the way that learning and exploration are addicting. Johnson asserts that gamers’ levels of focus, ability to track objects, and mental adaptation are significantly higher than that of non-gamers, and these abilities are essential to success in the workplace. The “Pokemon generation,” Johnson claims, is likely to “re- conceptualize goals based on experience... and think non-laterally.”

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
