Michael Webb Professor Bocketti Western Civ 2 3 November 2017 RR 11/3 In the Anglo Saxon letters and Diaries we see that the white Europeans, Sahibs, have come into the east, India, and dominated its natives. Due to the Manifest Destiny ideal, the Europeans feel compelled to push their lifestyle and ideals outward, into India, in an attempt to “conquer” the Asiatic world. This outward push of European culture allowed for the building of railways into India and thus easier travel there and back as people don’t have to worry about barbaric people or the elements robbing and killing them. Arminius Vambery talks about the Western influence in the East and how much the railway system improved and simplified their Manifest Destiny. The drive of these individuals and their quest to move European ideals is compared to the conquest of Julius Caesar and how he “conquered” the Asiatic world. Except, Vambery writes, Caesar and Rome's influence on the culture was “ever more than an external varnish, a transitory glamour. Compared to the real earnest work done in our days by Western
