Shannon Steele Journal Club 10 31 March 2017 How Personality Traits Tip Over Into Mental Illness For this week’s journal club, I read an article based on the fact that certain personalities can lead into some sort of mental illness. Apparently psychologists are very aware that a person’s personality can factor into mental health, but what they are not sure of is the relationship between certain personality traits and psychiatric illnesses. The article states that findings that were published in Nature Genetics suggest that personality traits and mental illness share key influences on a genetic level. Studies believe that once certain personality traits begin to be pushed to their extreme whether it is by ag3e, adversity, or other life experiences, they also begin to turn into some form of a mental illness.
