Shannon Steele Journal 1 20 January 2017 Abortion Doesn’t Harm Women’s Health, but Denying One Does For this first Journal Club of this semester, I chose the article “Abortion Doesn’t Harm Women’s Mental Health, but Denying One Does” and it discusses a study that has been going on for the past five years at the University of California, San Francisco. The study followed 21 women all over the United States who wanted an abortion. Throughout the 21 women they were broken up into 2 groups: the group of women who received abortions and the group of women who were unable to have an abortion because they were beyond the state’s gestational limit. Those who were denied abortions were split into two more groups: those who carried their baby to full term and those women who had miscarriages or went about other ways to abort having a child. Antonia Biggs, a social psychologist at UCSF, and her team made the overall statement
