Shannon Steele Journal 2 27 January 2017 Despite Mental Health Issues, Suspect Able To Keep Firearm For this week’s Journal Club, I chose the article “How did Fort Lauderdale Suspect Get Gun Back?” that was posted January 9, 2017 and it discusses how a 26 year old by the name of Esteban Santiago received his firearm back after spending time in a mental facility.Santiago did a 10-month tour in Iraq while serving for Puerto Rico's National Guard and this is where his brother, Bryan, said his shootings rampage stemmed from. According to law enforcements, Santiago had told him that voices inside his head told him to join ISIS and because of those voices, authorities were concerned with his behavior. The article states that Santiago visited an FBI Anchorage, Alaska, in November where his firearm was confiscated and he was ordered to participate into a mental health evaluation. The article never stated what Santiago’s mental health
