Positive Psychology – Final Prep Primary Preventions Definition: lessen or eliminate physical or psychological problems before they appear stop the bad before it happens. Primary prevention: hope for the future It is important to note that stopping negative behaviors (including negative thoughts) involves to prevent negative things to happen. Primary prevention are based on hope for the future. We would suggest that prevention is at its core an act of hope – a positive, empowered view of one’s ability to act so as to attain better tomorrows. Krauss and Krauss: greater perceived blockages from the government were correlated significantly with higher suicide rates across country. Example of Primary prevention: Health Care act Psychologist would define primary prevention as been quite effective. Based on Durlak and Wells, children and adolescents undergoing primary intervention program yielded effective outcomes similar in magnitude to medical procedures such as chemotherapy 59-82%
