Your knowledge of meiosis should help you to determine the genotypes of possible gametes for the Punnett squares. Complete Experiment 1: Punnett Square Crosses . Contact your classmates in the "Conversations with your lab partners" discussion area if you have difficulty with any of the problems in this lab. ********************************************************************* General Questions for Experiment 1: Punnett Square Crosses: 1. In a species of mice, brown fur color is dominant to white fur color. When a brown mouse is crossed with a white mouse all of their offspring have brown fur. Why did none of the offspring have white fur? Answer: As the brown fur is dominant to white fur, when brown mouse (BB) is crossed with white mouse (bb), there F1 is Bb and thus have brown fur. 2. Can a person’s genotype always be determined by their phenotype? Why or why not? Answer: Phenotype is the constellation of observable traits; genotype is the genetic endowment of the individual. Phenotype = genotype + development (in a given environment). Hence genotype cannot be determined by the phenotype. Questions for Part 1: Punnett Squares: 1. Set up and complete Punnett squares for each of the following crosses: (remember Y = yellow, and y = blue) A. Y Y and Y y
