Name the functions of the digestive system. Correlate these functions to different parts of the digestive system—be able to name at least one part of the digestive system where each function occurs. 2. Describe the histological organization and general characteristics of the four layers of the digestive tract. Compare special features or specializations in the different regions of the digestive tract. 3. Name and briefly describe the contributions of the accessory digestive organs to the digestive process. 4. Briefly describe the structure of the mesenteries and explain why they are necessary.
