To prepare: Review this week’s media presentation with Dr. Terry Buttaro, as well as Chapter 2 of the Arcangelo and Peterson text, and the Scott article in the Learning Resources. Consider the principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Reflect on your experiences, observations, and/or clinical practices from the last five years. Select a case from the last five years that involves a patient whose individual differences in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors altered his or her anticipated response to a drug. When referring to your patient, make sure to use a pseudonym or other false form of identification. This is to ensure the privacy and protection of the patient. Consider factors that might have influenced the patient’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes such as genetics (including pharmacogenetics), gender, ethnicity, age, behavior, and/or possible pathophysiological changes due to disease. Think about a personalized plan of care based on these influencing factors and patient history in your case study. With these thoughts in mind: By Day 3 Post a description of the case you selected. Then, describe factors that might have influenced pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic processes of the patient from the case you selected. Finally, explain details of the personalized plan of care that you would develop based on influencing factors and patient history in your case. NURS 6521 Week-1 Discussion Main Post Pharmacokinetics and Pharmacodynamics According to Arcangelo & Peterson, 2013 drugs can have different effects on the body. The reaction of drugs in the body is described in two teams known as pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Pharmacokinetics is defined as the movement of the drug through the body, or how the body affects the drug. And pharmacodynamics is how the drug affects the body, or how the drug initiates a therapeutic or toxic effect in the body. There have been several times when I have given a drug and I experienced the desired outcome was not met. For this discussion, I have chosen to center my discuss on an 87-year -old African-American female, with a history of bipolar disorder with other medical issues, I will explain basic pharmacokinetic processes, basic pharmacodynamics processes. Finally, I will explain personalized Plan of care.

Patient Scenario An 87-year -old African-American female, with a history of bipolar disorder, Hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and gout presented to our inpatient psychiatric hospital. The Patient was transferred to our facility from clinical trial research facility to my unit for a long-term medication management and stabilization. Information gathered from the family reveals that, patient has a progressive decompensated, refusing oral intake of food for the past 48 hours, but accepting her medication, demonstrating poor insight and poor judgment, increased confusion and isolative to her room.
