On Canvas & open book. -Both will be MC -Specifics of grading can be found in syllabus on Canvas -For those of you worried about grades, the grades in the last 2 years’ course were almost all quite high – no guarantees Assignments: -Descriptions are lengthy to reduce your work -Don’t be put off by the length of the descriptions -Shouldn’t be spending more than 6-8 hours/week for this class (outside of lecture) -Individual: - “Tools for Clinical Informatics” (4 parts) -EMR/HL7/SQL/NLP – representative examples - (Quizzes and Midterm; open book) -Group -Social Network Project (description coming) -Debates -Each of you will participate and summarize one (total 2, one of each) -Debating isn’t graded; your summary is September 7 th , 2017 Canada Health Infoway -% of MDs using EMR rose from 27% to 76% (80% in BC) between 2007 and 2014. -Whether infoway actually drove this is debatable -Infoway has also been a major promoter of interoperability – the ability of computer systems to communicate with one another -Achieving interoperability is currently one of their major objectives -This too is a major topic in our course – though it’s uncertain just how much interoperability we yet have developed (see slides on Canvas)
