Introduction Data in the table confirms that the US economy, current and projected, mostly depend on trucking efficiency. At USD509 billion expenditure on trucks, this indicates that the trucking share of the domestic freight market far exceeds that of all other modes combined. In Malaysia, we can also foresee the same trend because trucking offers the best door-to-door services with the least hassle.

The Three Modes of Land Transportation Rail is presumably the cheapest mode of transportation, provided that the work order is one full trainload of a minimum of 20 wagons. In Malaysia, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) is the sole operator for the rail movements for both passenger and cargo load. The landscape may change in the new future as Malaysia is poised to build high speed rail (HSR) from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur. (1) Rail

The Three Modes of Land Transportation (cont.) (a) Single tracking may cost cargo delay. Malaysia is still working on to improve its double tracking capacity, as it lags behind most of the countries in the world such as China, India, USA who have extensive rail coverage.
