The Renaissance The Renaissance took place during the 14th century- mid 16th century. It was the rebirth in art and literature, the word renaissance, defines as rebirth. During this time period, humanism was a major characteristic of the Renaissance. Due to the human centered perspective of the people, it began to take a major impact on religion. People began to pay more attention to their present life rather than the afterlife. Before the Renaissance, it was never acceptable to doubt or question the Catholic Church, during this time period, people emerged with different ideas and brought out the Protestant Reformation. The Protestant Reformation was an anti-catholic movement , which was followed by an abundant amount of people. These people found disagreements with the Catholic Church and decided to pursue a different form of religion. Religion, during the renaissance era, could be interpreted or viewed through three common critical perspectives. Archetypal, Feminist and Cultural. The universal understanding of religion will be viewed through the three lens. Catholic vs Protestant is viewed through an Archetypal lens, meaning that the symbolism in the religion is heavily depicted. A major symbol of both faiths would be a cross, which represented Jesus Christ. Although the Catholic and the Protestant religion are quite similar, there
